"We have the blessing of the wealth of our vast
resources, the power of our talents and the potentialities of our people. Let
us grasp now the opportunities before us and meet the challenge to our
survival.
It's not what you go through that
defines you; you can't help that. It's what you do AFTER you've gone through it
that really tests who you are
NELSON MANDELA
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use
to change the world.
I dream of the realization of
the unity of Africa, whereby its leaders combine in their efforts to solve the
problems of this continent. I dream of our vast deserts, of our forests, of all
our great wildernesses.
I learned that courage was not the absence
of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel
afraid, but he who conquers that fear.
If you talk to a man in a
language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his
language, that goes to his heart.
It is better to lead from
behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when
nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people
will appreciate your leadership.
JULIUS KAMBARAGE NYERERE
"If a door is shut, attempts should be made
to open it; if it is ajar, it should be pushed until it is wide open. In
neither case should the door be blown up at the expense of those inside.
"...intellectuals have a special
contribution to make to the development of our nation, and to Africa. And I am
asking that their knowledge, and the greater understanding that they should
possess, should be used for the benefit of the society of which we are all
members."
"To measure a country's wealth by its gross
national product is to measure things, not satisfactions."
If real development is to take place, the
people have to be involved."
